Baram Tales : Long Boats

This is the Sarawak Medical Department Long boat which travelled up and down the Baram.
My uncle the late Prof Dr Chong Chung Hian went a few times to visit the ulu folks and to assess the public health of the Baram.

Dressers would travel in this kind of long boats. The boat is specially constructed and the roofs can slide lengthwise. It was really a very superb kind of riverine architecture!! Sometimes a whole tree can provide enough lumber for the building of this kind of boat.

The long boat can easily take more than 8 to 10 people, but it can really only comfortably be for 6 people.
