Pork is an essential food for the Chinese. Mirians have been thrown into despair since Christmas 2022.
The price of pork has gone up, purportedly caused by shortage of supply and the asftermath of the African Swine Fever which swept through Asia and Sarawak. It was reported that thousands of pigs have died in September 2022 and Sarawak might not recover from the epidemic.
Christmas period and January ahead of the Chinese New Year saw the local population fearing the worst to come. The pork market has been silent too.
Even the Miri Abbatoir has to close down.
Prices are going up. And Mirians have to adapt to frozen pork from Kuching and even overseas.
