The Selambau
Logan Bunut is a very unique lake in Sarawak. It is now gazetted as a National Park and the ethnic group which lives there is the Berawan people.
Fishing is done in the lake during the wet season when the lake is alive and teeming with fish, with birds flying above the water. fishing is only allowed for the Berawan people. Those who come into the lake to fish need special permission from the park.
What is very interesting is the way the Berawans put their traps into the water. The trap is actually a lifting net. It is called the Selambau by the Berawans.
It is a square net which is attached to a wooden frame. When the water is up, the net is lowered into the water. The fisherman may go home to his village and return the next day to check the net by raising the net up. during the dry season the net is raised above the water to dry.
