Daun Long

The daun long is a very useful leaf in Sarawak. The leaf is used to wrap cooked soft rice, to be carried to the farms. This kind of rice wrapped in daun long is called nuba laya. It is now available in many eateries in Miri.

The leaves can be used to wrap Chinese glutinous rice cakes, and other local glutinous rice cakes. But the best delicacy is kelupis, a tasty savoury rice wrapped in daun long.

Somehow the daun long can keep  the delicacies fresh for several days without refrigeration. It also adds a special flavour to the cakes.
