Sarawak's Own Brinjal - Terong Dayak

The Terong Dayak has been called by other names. Terong Emas, Terong Asam, Terong Bulat. But it is best known as Terong Dayak.

This beautiful round and sour brinjal has an exceptional colouration for its skin. It can be red, green, purple, orange, and even yellow and in some cases, black. Its shape can be perfectly round, or a little elongated.

It actually has some small hairs on its skin which might not be detected by the normal eyes.

this brinjal gives fish and meat a sourish taste when boiled together in soups. It is a very popular vegetable in the Iban longhouse and sometimes, the only vegetable.

This brinjal cannot grow well in West Malaysia but it is easily grown in the backyards of longhouses in Sarawak.
