1917 founded by Rev Yet Jien Yuan and local headman Ling Ah Siew and Lu King Kee
Wei King Kee was the first teacher to teach in this school using Heng Hua and Foochow as mediums of instruction. There were only about 30 students at the beginning.
1925-1936 Mandarin was used a medium of instruction by popular demand
3 teachers and more than 90 students were
1942 Japanese took over the school and used it their headquarters.
1946 school resumed and rebuilt due to bombings by Allied Forces
1954-55 Secondary section combined with Tung Hua secondary school were established.
In 1969 10 classrooms were added
1n 1956 school became Govt aided school.
1964 English became medium of instruction
Much progress was made after 1970 as new school rooms were added
In 1971 - secondary and primary sections of Tiong Hin were separated andTiong Hin Secondary School developed rapidly with addition of 8 classrooms and one science lab.
The Primary school section moved further away from Sungei Merah
