How to Park Cars in Miri?

There are many different and amusing ways of parking cars in Miri if you care to notice.

If you can find a grass patch. That's a good way. That is...if you drive up and park easily.

If the kerbs are low you can park right on the pavement ...and this is usually done in the Boulevard Commercial Centre. As you can see in these three photos. It does not matter how big or small your vehicle is. All you need to have is I suppose guts to break the traffic and parking regulations. While others pay for their parking some smart people go free!!

It is no wonder it is an uphill task to teach children in school how to be law abiding if adults bend the rules. But again...may be people think that they are just being smarter than others....

However these drivers are already much better than some who literally park right up onto the five foot way. You can't change people's attitude easily I suppose in a small place.

Dear Anonymous
\miri is a Resort City not quite yet a real City really. And I do think many Mirians need to attend a course on how to be a city dweller.....thanks for the comment.

Dear Ah Ngao
\yes it is a pity that so many people can drive cars but are very discourteous to say the least. They should really know how to behave especially in hospital and school areas. One woman I know was once slapped by a very angry man because she refused to move her car out of the way.....won't mention the place. thanks.

Well, kuching, Sibu, Miri are still a long long way from a "civil" City. The hawker places are still dirty and the way people drive and park reveal for all to see where we are.

Dear Local Guy
Well said...we must strive to improve all the time. Our politicians and local leaders must naturally lead the way so that we are not left behind....

Wow, been away from home so long, I can't believe that this would happen in my hometown. I'm so disappointed.

I live in KL, a "CITY", people park as they please. And the latest trend, purchasing a 4WD to intimidate other drivers on the road(not transporting in and out of jungle roads) and park easily on the curbs. So, in conclusion, its a city mentality. I think, the bigger the city or town becomes, the more, unfriendly and uncharacteristic the people become.

This habit shown in this post, is most definitely not one would expect from a small asian town, in my humble opinion. Small town people are always always very very courteous and gracious, because of reputation. Everyone knows what everyone does. Not very nice lah if you cincai do this or that.

So I guess, Miri is becoming a city after all ;)

Well Freebird....small town mentality can mean different things to different people. Breaking rules seem to be a good act amongst people with money and gib cars....never mind. Let the Police decide. We cannot do civil arrest here.
