Dinner theme : Summer Wine

June is strawberry and Wimbledon time in the UK. And many of us who speak English think of summer wines and fruits in the garden.

When a group of very "old friends" got together last week (end of June) we decided to have a theme dinner - what else?

Summer wine! All of us brought a dish cooked in wine. I brought my whole chicken cooked in wine and Foochow mee sua...and I hope this will also give my daughter some happy thoughts on her birthday..Our pot luck dinners have never been a kiasu kind of thingy. We are casual and we cook with love. No stress. No regrets whatsoever.

Good friends in Miri meet for a nice chat to keep up to date with each other. What better way to share a good relationship over the years? Good conversation and laughter certainly become more memorable with good food at the table. Regina graciously opened the doors of her beautiful home for this simple yet nostalgic occasion....

Juliana's dish - chicken slices soaked in wine sauce.

Whole chicken in Foochow Red wine ( sturdied with wolfberries and dried mushrooms and ginger...)

Mee sua.....(but this is not a Sibu product) so it is considered a little gluey.

Drunken prawns

Tou food in special minced meat sauce

Carrot cake (with lots of secret wine)

A slice of the carrot cake

A slice of steamed tapioca soaked with caramelised sauce

Regina Szetu - our hostess of the evening - MU friends. We stayed at the Third College together.
Juliana and Jean Wong
Llyeton Lu
Tom and Chris - friends since the Tanjong School Days in Miri - went to MU at the same time.

when shall we meet again?

It will be time for Autumn Leaves........

Guess what we are going to cook....besides cooking up a storm!!

This post is dedicated to all my good friends and my children....Enjoy summer while it lasts!!

Happy Birthday to my daughter.....e- mee sua and e-chicken for you....

Nice gathering.I love pot luck meals.

Do Europeans take a lot of wine during the dog days of summer?

Wenn...so how was your summer in Europe? May be we are too much into the songs and old nostalgia...Summer wines...and grapes getting plucked for the making of wines and people feasting away in the setting sun hours.

Charles...it is better than eating in a cluttered and rowdy restaurant...

More healthy too because we tend to cook with less oil etc.

It really depends...but I guess most people drink wines when they have a celebration or have friends over who BYO (bring your own)...Italians drink a lot and so the French.

It is from the song....

How are you? Yes...summer wines often featured in magazine adverts...that's when new wines are made..different grapes different wines...different season different wines...grapes are temperamental!!

Beng Beng...it is good for me recently...We used to say.."Who's in town?" and we would go out to eat...then we realised that we love each others cooking....quite regular for us to get together and by having themes we don't repeat our "dishes"!!
