First Protestant Church in China - Xiamen 新街礼拜堂

Xiamen was the birthplace of Protestanism in China.

In 1842, RCA (Reformed Church in America)  missionary DAvid Abeel became the first of the 150 missionaries to serve in Amoy (Xiamen). He established a mission station and the gospel spread slowly through the Fujian province. As a result of his work and other RCA missionaries' work, the first Protestant church was built in China in Xiamen.

The first Protestant Church of China is called Xinjie (New Road)  Church. It is still standing at the corner of the famous Zhongshan Road and Siming Road.

That year also saw the first two Chinese baptised, a 60 yar old father, a maker of silk flowers, and his son.
