Bus Tickets
Remember bus tickets of the olden days?
Our countrymen and countrywomen were very generous and they would outdo each other to pay for the fare.
kids below a certain height did not have to pay any fare.
And school boys were taught by their mission school teachers to give their seats to women and the old.
My grandfather Tiong Kung Ping would take me by the hand and go up the bus and told the bus driver he would only pay for himself later because he did not want to drop his coin on a moving bus. After he sat down he would take his coin out of his little rubber purse and keep it in his hand until we came to our stop.
Today all these practices are all HISTORY.
