Poinsettias at Christmas in Miri

Image may contain: plant, flower, outdoor and nature

Isn't it interesting to learn that poinsettia's species name pulcherrima means "most beautiful"?

Each Christmas I dream of getting ponsettias to decorate my house in Miri, but it is a plant that is not easily found in the tropics.

It is such a traditional Christmas flower that we have to make do with plastic versions made in Hong Kong.

The flower is named after Dr. J.R. Poinsett and was introduced to gardeners in the 19th century.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited my relatives in Fujian that there were lots of them in their gardens. A western missionary must have introduced the flower to the Foochows in Minqing.

This flower is a multi million dollar business with plants sold every where in the world.
