Medicinal Plants : Nenas Kerang
Tradescantia spathacea sw.
this is a common plant grown all over Sarawak and especially in Sibu.
The leaves are boiled from time to time with barley to make a cooling drink for children who are overheated from the fried food they eat or from playing too much in the sun. Athletes are often given this cooling drink when their urine is brown in colour.
This cooling drink is perfect to clear urine. Helps to reduce nose bleeding, coughing and even dysentery.
It is also known as Purple Pandan in Bahasa Malaysia.
If unsure of this information or the buying of the plant, please ask a Chinese Sinseh or a botanist.
