Miri : Sg. Nusah

There is a small river which flows into the Satap river.

Kuala Nusah, or the junction of the Satap River and Nusah river is a pretty place where rice is grown by the Kedayans, an ethnic race, who live along the Limbang- Bekenu area. They are also related to the Kedayan people of Brunei.

There is a kampong Nusah too. Today oil palm and rearing of swiftlets in bird houses have been started.

What is very interesting is an abandoned flood gate. This structure was built to irrigate the area and at the same time mitigate floods. As salination has become a problem nowadays, fewer farmers cultivate rice. When the tide is high, salt water enters the rivers here.

The flood gate after having been abandoned has been badly vandalized. Part of it has become the bridge to cross the Satap River!

The river Nusah has beautiful trees on both sides . It is a pity if oil palm companies do not care for the scenic beauty of the area and pollute the river.

Fire flies have been seen here from time to time by the locals. However the small river offers a lot of potentials for small river cruises, boating, fishing and just some nice river bank picnicking. During the fruit season I am sure there will be plenty of fruits sold by the villagers.

Hopefully the villagers will continue to work hard and cultivate their padi.

Development is coming fast to this area and a good well surfaced road has been built.
