Yunnan : Wine Making
We visited the River View Hotel in Mengzi for a very good lunch, a true Yunnanese Lunch, with hotpot and all. Here I enjoyed savouring some of their wines.
I like the labels on the various wine urns which welcome diners to the shop. The tops made by a piece of heavy wood, wrapped in nice satin cloth are very decorative and auspicious. The Yunnanese love gold or yellow colour (symbolic of wealth).
The wines were mainly made from fruits like Promengranate and plums. But what was amazing was the size of the urns!! At least there is something bigger than me. This wine urn is more than 100 kg. The people still use the ancient way of measuring weight - kati.
The French monks first taught the Yunnanese to make wines from grapes and later other fruits. More about that, in another posting. Cheers.
