The Difference between Wealth and Poverty

Long before Pendidekan Moral was part of our school curriculum for Non Muslims, we were taught moral values by our parents, grand parents and our uncles and aunties.

My uncle, the late Hii Wen Hui was one of the best story tellers of our community.

I remember his moral story of the trait which decided whether a woman was going to be rich or poor in Sibu. And according to him this was a real story which happened.

A long time ago, two young women were given a duck egg each.

The first woman carefully arranged for her duck egg to be hatched . The other woman quickly cooked and ate her egg.

The first woman had a duckling and so it grew to be a mother duck.

the mother duck had a brood and soon the brood had more eggs and more ducks. Her future oriented mind helped her to be far sighted and resilitent.

So the difference between wealth and poverty was only ONE DUCK EGG.

I grew up with lots of stories from our elders, especially Uncle Wen Hui. May he rest in peace.
