Beijing Palace Inn 17 May 2018

This is a recount of my trip to Hebei, China, in 2018.

3 years have passed by and I still have a very vivid memory of the last one and half days I spent in Beijing. If only I had more time.

A taste of Qing Dynasty - it was our last day in Beijing and Hebei. The orgniners arranged for us to stay at a Qing styled Palace Inn to get a feel of what it was like to stay in a mansion owned by the family of an official, most probably a eunuch.

It was a marvellous mansion and I got to know more about the hutong too. We did not have a chance to visit the museum because the queue was too long and we chose to see the streets, taste the food and do a bit of shopping.

At the inn I saw a map of old Beijing (then called Peiping, 1937) So I imagined how my father then a final year undergrad of Yenching university cycling around in the beautiful old capital

The air vent from upstairs gave us a full view of the courtyard turned lobby of the Palace Inn. Here we had a good lunch, served by the cook of the inn.

This was my bed for the night. Very comfortable and solid. But the bathroom was damp.

The next day before we left for the airport, we had morning devotion in the guy's dormitory. It was very airy meant for 7 people.

The view from the top floor balcony.

It was an overall good trip and I learned a lot from my team mates and leaders. If only I know more Chinese!!
