Visit to Nihewan Valley - Archaeological Site

In 2018 May 16 We arrived at Nihewan Valley. It was a hot desert like place but we learned first hand how the Peking Man was found here by western archealogists in the 1920's.

Today the Chinese Government has done a tremendous job of creating a tourist area to attract world tourists interested in history and archealogy. We spent time to read the inscriptions took photos ad walked around. It is also a place where you can build memories if you can bring your young children to visit. It is quite a long distance from Beijing as you can imagine.

It is 120 miles west of Beijing. Archealogical excavations are o going. The Nihewan sites document homiid dispersal to eastern Asia, early stoe tool makig and anciet animal fossils, beginning at least 1.3 million years ago.

We also visited the Zhoukuodian Museum which has very up to date technology. When we were young we studied the Peking Man in our history lessons. So it was quite awesome to be able to visit a museum and the archaeololgical sites more than 50 years later!!

With desert sands warming up your feet, and the hot sun blazing on your Asian skin, I thought to myself it must have been quite extraordinary to a be a Stone Age person all those years ago. Would I be alright just having a stone to kill, hunt and look for food? Would I be ok with just a stone for my sleepy head?

We Asians are His descendants if you believe in that theory.
